Infosys shares drop on MAT hike
IT bellwether Infosys Technologies today plunged 2.65 per cent in early trade a
day after the government approved hiking the minimum alternative tax (MAT).
Shares of Infosys Technologies tanked 2.65 per cent to a month-low of Rs 2,690
on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Pandals, odd jobs in festive season bring money
Thirty-year-old Vijay Shinde from Solapur helps at a Ganesh pandal in Pune and
earns around Rs 200 per day. His daily wages will go up as Ganeshotsav
approaches. Like Shinde, there are over 5,000 workers who help put up pandals
and find other small jobs in this festive season. They are seasonal migrants who
have come to Pune to earn some income.
Private sector lukewarm to jobs for disabled: Wasnik
Social justice and welfare minister Mukul Wasnik on Thursday told Rajya Sabha
that private sector has given a "dismal" response to a government incentive
scheme for providing jobs to disabled. Wasnik also said the government is
planning to bring a new "holistic and forward looking" legislation for people
with disabilities. A committee, consisting of experts and representatives from
various stakeholders has been set up to draft a new legislation, which would be
in tune with the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of Persons with
Disabilities.
IBM, IIT-Bombay in mobile research tie-up
IBM has partnered with Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-Bombay) to
conduct research on developing new user-friendly designs for mobile device
interfaces. The collaboration aims to develop simple, inexpensive mobile phone
interfaces that will help users interact with their phones easily regardless of
their geography or education level, IBM said in a statement.
